CAL LEAGUE BASEBALL: Manager says several players were unprofessional

The 66ers opened the 2010 season with plenty of high hopes: A mixture of big-time Dodgers prospects with some key veterans seemed to give the team the right ingredients for a successful season on the field.

So what went wrong?

The answer: just about everything.
작년 GLL의 대부분의 선수들이 인랜드로 콜업되면서 희망찬 2010년 시즌이 될것이라는 전망을 뒤로하고 모든것이 엉망이었다.

The team was an abysmal 50-90 - the worst record in the league, the franchise's worst record in 10 years as a Dodgers affiliate, and the worst for the franchise overall since 1994. At 19-51, they had the worst home record in all of the minor leagues since 1996.
그런 기대를 뒤로한체 인랜드는 올해 50승 90패로 마이너리그 통합 5번째로 좋지 못한 승률을 기록했고, 다저스 팜이 된 이후 최근 10년간 최악의 성적을 기록했다. 그리고 1996년 이후 마이너리그 통틀어 19승 51패라는 최악의 홈승률 또한 달성해버렸다.

"I think a lot of the guys weren't professional," Sixers manager Jeff Carter said. "For me, it's disturbing because you expect that in rookie ball, but by the time they get here (to high Single-A), you expect them to be professional."
전 이 녀석들이 전혀 프로선수답지 못하다고 생각합니다. 루키레벨이라면 모르겠지만, A+까지 올라온 녀석들이라면 분명 프로라고 생각되어야 마땅하죠.

Carter also said there was a lack of leadership among the players.

"We, as coaches, can talk to them, but there needs to be one or two guys you can count on to keep other guys in line," he said.
그리고 일부 선수들의 리더십 부족을 꼬집었다. 분명 한 두명정도는 다른 선수들을 이끌어줘야 했어요.

And then there's the issue of how the team played at home at Arrowhead Credit Union Park, a facility that gives players and coaches little room for complaint.

"I wish I had an answer for you," Carter said. "Maybe they went out too late at night and didn't get enough sleep at home."

It appeared, entering the season, that the Sixers would have more power than speed, and initially that was the case, but a large part of that was the production of outfielder Kyle Russell, who batted .354 with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs in 53 games before he was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga.

Once Russell was gone, there wasn't a lot of power left.

The Sixers were a solid fifth in the league in batting average, but ranked ninth in home runs and seventh in stolen bases, and as a result finished ninth in runs scored.
올해 인랜드의 공격에서 스피드보다는 파워가 우선시되었었다. 하지만, 리그 MVP급 성적을 올리고 있던 카일 러셀(Kyle Russell)이 콜업된 후 파워는 거의 사라져버렸다. 인랜드는 올해 리그 타율 5위를 기록했지만, 홈런은 9위에 머물렀고, 도루수치는 7위를 기록했으며, 그 결과 팀득점은 리그 9위로 시즌을 마감했다.

Add to that a pitching staff that was ninth in the league in ERA (below the Mavericks, who play in hitter haven Stater Bros. Stadium) with a 5.03 mark, and it wasn't a combination for a winning team.

The pitching was especially a disappointment, with the Dodgers' No. 3 and 4 prospects, left- hander Aaron Miller and right- hander Ethan Martin, anchoring the starting rotation.
투수진은 더 심각했는데, 팀 ERA는 9위인 5.03ERA를 기록했다. 구체적으로 다저스가 기대하는 이썬 마틴(Ethan Martin)의 성적이 너무나도 실망스러웠다.

Miller excelled, going 6-4 with a 2.92 ERA, including 4-0 in five starts since his return from Double-A in August.

"When he came back down, he handled it like a professional," Carter said of Miller. "He learned how to pitch."

Martin had some outstanding efforts early, including a shutout against Bakersfield in May and three other outings in which he didn't allow a run.

By the end of the year, though, Martin's ERA had ballooned to 6.35 and his record was 9-14.
물론 밀러(Aaron Miller)는 2.92ERA로 잘 던져줬지만, 마틴의 경우 5월에 베이커스필드를 상대로 완봉승을 거두긴 했지만, 그의 최종 성적은 9승 14패 6.35ERA를 기록했다.

Other than Miller, Carter identified other bright spots for the team: outfielder Alfredo Silverio, who improved after a slow start and an injury; outfielder Ramon Jean, who had never played above rookie ball until this year; and shortstop Chris Gutierrez.

"Chris is an older player who came down (to Single-A). He could've had a bad attitude, but he batted over .300 and did a great job," Carter said.
밀러 이외에 잘해준 선수는 슬로우 스타터와 부상으로 인해 많은 경기에 출전하지 못했던 실베리오(Alfredo Silverio)와 올시즌 전까지 루키레벨을 벗어나질 못했던 라몬 진(Ramon Jean), 크리스 구티에레즈(Chris Gutierrez)가 있다. 구티에레즈는 분명 이 레벨에서 뛰기엔 나이가 많은 선수(84년 3월생)이며, 태도도 불량하지만, 3할 이상을 쳐주면서 도움을 줬다.

There were others who had been at Double-A who joined the Sixers during the season and didn't produce like a player who had been at Double-A. Cesar Suarez, Bridger Hunt, Tommy Giles, Paul Koss and Brandon Mann were five players with some experience but who were released by the Dodgers while with the Sixers.
그외에 AA에서 뛰다가 강등되어왔던 선수가 있었지만, 그닥 임펙트있는 모습을 보여주지도 못했거니와 5명 모두가 방출되었다.

Catcher Matt Wallach was another bright spot. He didn't begin the year as a starter, but through his hard work earned the starting spot, then a promotion to Double-A.
그외에 시즌초 선발로 나오진 못했던 맷 월랙(Matt Wallach)은 좋은 시즌을 보내며 콜업되었었다.

As for Carter, he plans on being with the Dodgers next season, although he's not sure where he'll be. Regardless, he certainly hopes for more success than he enjoyed in 2010.
인랜드의 감독인 제프 카터(Jeff Carter)는 내년에도 다저스에 있을 것이라고 생각된다. 물론 그의 재계약을 확신할 수는 없지만....하지만, 그는 내년이 여전히 올해보다 기대된다고 한다.

일단 인랜드의 성적은 해가 거듭될수록 더 나빠지고 있습니다. 올해 50승 90패였고, 작년에는 59승 81패, 08시즌에는 68승 73패였습니다.
08시즌에 성적이 좋았던 이유를 생각해보면 카를로스 산타나가 혼자 팀을 책임져준게 가장 컸다고 보여지네요. 후반기에 그가 없음으로인해 망했지만..

저도 올해의 인랜드는 참 많이 기대를 했었는데, 누가 약속이라도 한듯이 모두 망해버렸습니다. 적어도 빅리그팀에게 기여를 해줄지도 모를 선수들이 다수 포진되었던 올해이기때문에 실망도 크다고 생각되네요.


최근 2년간 부상으로 많은 경기에 출전하지 못했던 델모니코(Tony Delmonico)가 반드시 리바운딩을 해줘야겠죠.

오스틴 갈라거(Austin Gallagher)는 여전히 어린 나이(88년 11월생)이지만, 타자친화적인 이곳에서 건강한 한해를 보냈음에도 불구하고 자신의 신체사이즈(6피트 5인치 210파운드)와는 어울리지 않는 .405의 장타율과 7할 5푼대의 OPS가 기대감을 사라지게 하는 요인일지도 모르겠습니다.
