Loons escape elimination with eight runs in the eighth
Over two playoff games, the Great Lakes Loons went 15 innings before scoring their first run in the Midwest League Quarterfinals series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. When they finally did, the floodgates were opened and the Loons posted eight runs in the eighth inning of Game 2 to win 10-5 Thursday night, forcing a decisive Game 3 to be played Friday at Dow Diamond.
오늘 GLL이 7회에 2득점을 하면서 플레이오프 15이닝 무득점에서 탈출했습니다. GLL은 정규시즌을 합쳐서 (오늘 6회까지) 22이닝동안 무득점상태였습니다.
붉은 색 티셔츠를 입고 있는 선수가 어쩌면 플레이오프 2라운드 1차전 선발이 될지 모르는 조쉬 월(Josh Wall)입니다.
Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth inning, the Loons welcomed TinCaps reliever Stiven Osuna to the mound. The right-hander started the frame with a walk to Blake Smith, which was followed by an Angelo Songco single. Next up was Rafael Ynoa, who tapped a bunt that Jason Hagerty tried to take to third, but Smith reached the hot corner safely, loading the bases on a fielder's choice with no outs.
Joe Becker, who scored the first run for the Loons, hit a sharp grounder to TinCaps shortstop Jonathan Galvez. The infielder's throw home was wide left of the plate and gave Smith the free pass to tie the game on the throwing error. The bases were still loaded and Osuna pitched pinch hitter Chris Jacobs into his second walk to give the Loons their first lead of the series, 4-3.
"We're a team that always comes back late in the game. We're good at it," Loons skipper Juan Bustabad said. "When it was three to two, I said to myself, 'we're going win this game'. We could have folded at three to nothing and went home tomorrow, but this team has great chemistry, great make-up, and we never say die."
The Loons continued to beat up on Fort Wayne in the inning with four hits that each scored at least one run. Batting around, the Loons finished the inning with the 10-2 lead and 3,917 Loons fans doing the funky feather.
7회에 2득점을 하면서 무득점행진에서 탈출했지만, 이기기 위해서는 더 점수를 뽑아야하는 상황이었고, 8회말 틴캡스의 투수가 스티븐 오수나(Stiven Osuna)로 바뀌면서 경기의 흐름은 바꼈습니다. 블레이크 스미스(Blake Smith)가 볼넷으로 출루하면서 시작된 8회말 공격은 타자 일순하면서 8회에만 총 12명의 타자들이 나와서 6안타 2BB & 상대 실책 2개가 편성되면서 8득점이나 해버리면서 순식간에 경기를 뒤집어 버렸습니다.
"We know we could beat them," Bustabad said. "It was just a matter of time for us to get on the board. As soon as we scored two runs, it's like we knew we were going to break out of it. Then we scored ten."
어제 투수들의 호투와 상대팀보다 많은 안타를 기록했음에도 불구하고 완봉패를 당했던 GLL의 감독 버스타베드(Juan Bustabad)는 경기후반에 역전승(comes back late in the game)을 자주 한다면서 아주 좋아하네요.
Great Lakes' initial two runs came in the seventh inning, started by Joe Becker's leadoff double to left field. The hit was followed by a walk to Jacobs, who had just entered for his first at-bat. Two outs later, Loons outfielder Nick Buss brought in the Loons first runs of the series with a single over the infield for two runs. Buss finished four-for-five with one run and four RBI.
Greg Wilborn started on the mound for the Loons and surrendered a three-run home run in the first inning to Edinson Rincon, but the southpaw settled in to toss six strikeouts in five innings. Jordan Roberts stepped in to limit the TinCaps to one hit in 2.2 innings before closer Steve Ames pitched the final 1.1 for the winning decision.
오늘 선발이었던 웰본(Greg Wilborn)은 1회에 에디슨 링컨(Edinson Rincon)에게 홈런을 맞긴했지만, 5이닝동안 6K를 기록하면서 승리의 발판(?)을 마련했습니다. 링컨은 올해 초 BA가 선정한 파즈 유망주 9위를 차지한 선수입니다. 어린 나이(90년 8월생)임에도 불구하고 브레이킹볼에 대한 이해도가 아주 좋다고 하는군요. 수비시에 어깨는 강하지만, 풋워크와 손놀림이 별로여서 많은 실책을 범하는 3루수라고 합니다. 해서 오늘도 3루수가 아닌 DH로 나왔나 보네요.
"We've got a good pitcher going again tomorrow with [Matt] Magill and we've got a good bullpen ready to go," Bustabad said looking ahead. "Now we've just got to keep the momentum of tonight and carry it on out to tomorrow...and win."
Dow Diamond will host Game 3 of the Midwest League's Quarterfinals Friday, September 10, which is set to be a $1 Family Feast Night courtesy of Chemical Bank. Pitching for the Loons is Magill (7-4, 3.28) against the TinCaps RHP Jerry Sullivan (7-4, 4.05).
