All-Star slugger helps Great Lakes seize 1-0 semifinal lead

Midwest League Postseason All-Star Brian Cavazos-Galvez lived up to his selection in the playoffs Sunday.

The Dodgers outfield prospect went 4-for-5 with a homer, a triple and five RBIs as the Loons topped the host Captains, 10-8, to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-3 semifinal series. The Loons head home with a chance to clinch their first league Finals berth on Monday.

The 2009 Pioneer League MVP posted a .318 batting average with 16 homers, 77 RBIs and 43 stolen bases in 121 regular-season games for the Loons. Yet in 12 games against Lake County this season, Cavazos-Galvez was just 3-for-43 (.070). Despite his struggles, the Loons posted a 13-6 record against the Captains with a 7-3 mark at Lake County's Classic Park.

"I actually didn't know that," Cavazos-Galvez told ESPN 100.9 FM regarding his regular season stats against Lake County. "I feel a little bit better now."

Up in the third inning after grounding out in the first, the University of New Mexico product blasted a line drive to deep left-center field that appeared to hit off the top of the wall. As Cavazos-Galvez pulled up at second base, it was ruled a home run. The two-run shot gave the Loons a 2-1 lead.

"I had my head down most of the way, but it did seem to take a funny bounce," the right-handed slugger said.

The former 12th-round Draft pick drove in two more runs with a bloop single in the fifth and tripled home Nick Buss in the seventh. He singled and scored what would prove to be an important insurance run in the ninth.

Enjoying a 10-5 lead after 8 1/2 frames, the Loons were two outs from victory when the Captains strung together four hits and a walk. They scored three times and put the tying run on base before Great Lakes manager Juan Bustabad called on reliever Luis Vasquez to face Lake County shortstop Casey Frawley.

에임스는 정규시즌 GLL에서만 23경기 28.1이닝동안 9실점 2.54ERA로 16세이브나 거두면서 GLL의 뒷문을 지켜줬지만, 오늘 0.2이닝동안 4피안타 4실점이나 하면서 위기를 자초했습니다.

"I told Luis to go get him. We knew [Frawley] was an aggressive hitter, and Luis threw him a sinker," Bustabad said.

Frawley grounded into a 5-4-3 double play on Vasquez's first pitch to end the threat and the game.
에임스와 함께 GLL의 더블 스토퍼인 루이스 바스퀘스(Luis Vasquez)가 Casey Frawley에게 병살타를 만들어내면서 승리를 이끌었습니다. 투수교체과정에서 Frawley가 아주 공격적인 타자이기때문에 싱커를 던지라는 주문을 했었나 봅니다.

"I think [Vasquez] actually caught a little more barrel than he wanted to on that pitch, but the infielders did a great job turning the double play," Cavazos-Galvez said.

"We didn't take anything for granted -- here, six runs is like nothing," Bustabad added. "They have a good club and they never give up. But the bottom line is a win is a win, so we're very happy, especially to get one on the road in a series opener."

Loons first baseman Jaime Ortiz contributed a two-run shot in the sixth while Joe Becker, who is batting .417 in the postseason, added two singles and an RBI.

The Captains offense was led by left fielder Chase Burnette, who went 3-for-4 with two longballs, a double and four RBIs. His ninth-inning double smacked off the base of the wall in deep center field.

Great Lakes starter Josh Wall (1-0) picked up the win after allowing five runs on seven hits -- three of them home runs -- over 6 2/3 frames. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Vasquez's one pitch earned him his second save of the playoffs.

사실 오늘 경기는 원정경기이고, 페랄타 딜로 클리브랜드 팜으로 건너온 지오바니 소토(Giovanni Soto)를 상대로 힘든 경기가 예상되었습니다. 시즌 막판 등판경기에서 미끌어졌지만, 줄곧 MWL ERA 2위에 랭크되어있었던 소토를 상대로 승리를 거뒀기때문에 자신감은 더 상승했을거라고 생각되네요.

The series shifts to Great Lakes' Dell Diamond on Monday evening. Loons ace Allen Webster (12-9, 2.88 ERA) takes on Lake County's Brett Brach (5-8, 3.46) with a chance to send Great Lakes to its first Midwest League Championship Series.
어제 비로 인해 오늘 1차전이 열린 관계로 웹스터(Allen Webster)는 정상적으로 나흘 휴식 후 닷세만에 등판하게되었습니다. 일단 내일 2차전은 홈으로 돌아가서 등판하기때문에 상대팀보다 더 편한마음으로 경기에 임할 수 있게 되었습니다.

내일 이긴다면 GLL은 플옵 3라운드이자 최종전에 올라가기때문에 2차전으로 끝낼 필요가 있을 겁니다. 더군다나 내일 이긴다면 3라운드는 현지시간으로 15일에 열리기때문에 하루 휴식하는 기회가 생깁니다.

Ogden Will Face Helena for Three-Game Series

The Ogden Raptors overcame a seven-run deficit to defeat the Orem Owlz 12-9 Sunday at Lindquist Field and advance to the Championship round for the first time since 1996. The Raptors won the three-game series, two games to one.
예상되다시피 오늘 오그던 랩터스의 선발투수였던 피트 버드케비스(Pete Budkevics)는 오랜 이닝을 버텨내질 못했습니다. 파이오니아 리그가 아무리 타자친화적인 구장일지라도 단기전으로 열리는 플옵에서 선발투수가 어느정도의 몫을 해줘야 함에도 불구하고 오늘 선발로 나와서 단 한 타자도 아웃카운트를 잡지 못한체, 3피안타 6실점(4자책)을 했습니다.

The Raptors trailed 7-0 after the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Bobby Coyle walked and moved to second on a single by Jake Lemmerman. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Nick Akins both runners home on a hit down the left-field line. Two batters later, Jonathan Garcia singled home Akins to cut the Owlz' lead to 7-3. The Raptors tied the game in the fourth. With one out, Chris Henderson, Steve Domecus and Casio Grider hit consecutive singles to load the bases. Leon Landry and Coyle hit back-to-back, two-run doubles to tie the game 7-7. In the fifth, the Owlz took the lead with two runs.
1회초에 7실점이나 하면서 아주 어려운 상황에 몰렸지만, 차근차근 득점을 쌓아가면서 상대팀 선발이었던 장필준(Pil Joon Jang)선수를 무너뜨렸습니다. 그러는 사이에 굴드(Garrett Gould)가 4.1이닝동안 2피안타 2실점으로 호투를 했습니다. 선발투수가 아웃카운트 하나 잡질 못했던 상황이기때문에 어찌보면 선발로 등판했다고 생각해도 틀린말은 아닌데, 어수선한 경기에서 굴드가 나름 이닝을 끌어주면서 랩터스의 타자들이 득점을 차근차근 쌓아갔습니다.

However, the Raptors took their first lead of the game in the sixth. With one out, Landry singled to right. Two batters later, Lemmerman doubled to right to score Landry from first. Akins followed with a game-tying single to left that plated Lemmerman. Once a wild pitch and a passed ball moved Akins to third, Blake Dean gave the Raptors the 10-9 lead with a single to right.
오늘 랩터스의 타자들은 1, 4, 6, 7회에 멀티득점을 올렸는데, 오늘 선발로 나왔던 1~4번타자들(랜드리, 코일, 레머맨, 엑킨스)이 도합 17타수 9안타(4XBH) 8R 9RBI를 올리면서 공격을 주도했습니다.

The Raptors bullpen was great in Game 3. Garrett Gould, Jake McCarter, Gustavo Gomez and Shawn Tolleson combined for nine innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits. The righties struck out eight and walked five.

The Raptors will face the Helena Brewers, Ogden's opponent the last time they made the Championship Series. The three-game series will start Tuesday in Helena. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 1280 The Zone. Games 2 and 3 will be in Ogden on Thursday and Friday.
오늘 승리로 플옵 1라운드를 통과한 랩터스는 다른 쪽 디비전에서 승리를 거두고 올라온 Helena Brewers와 3전 2선승제의 파이오니아 리그 챔피언전을 현지시간으로 14일부터 시작하게 됩니다.

사실 오늘 경기가 사실상의 파이오니아 챔피언결정전이 아닐까 싶네요. 지난 시즌에 랩터스가 더 좋은 정규시즌 성적을 거뒀음에도 불구하고 플옵 1라운드에서 오램 오웰스(Orem Owlz)에게 졌고, 오웰스는 결국 작년시즌 파이오니아 챔피언이 되었었죠.
