BA평가 AZL 소속의 다저스 유망주

어제 오션님이 올려주신 BA판 AZL 유망주랭킹입니다. 이제 이런게 슬슬 올라오기 시작하는군요. 근대 오늘 아파란치아 리그(Appalachian League) 유망주랭킹이 뜨면서 선수 스카우트 리포트가 떴던데, 왜 그 리그만 무료자료인지 모르겠습니다. 일단 친절한 truebluela에서 다저스소속 마이너 선수만 따로 스카우팅 리포터를 올려서 퍼왔습니다.

Each September Baseball America does reviews of each league in the minors. Yesterday they did the AZL and answered questions about the Arizona League prospects.  Two weeks ago I did my analysis of the Dodgers in the AZL,  Baseball America and True Blue posters seemed to agree on who was the best prospect. By a large vote, True Blue picked Allen (Carl) Webster as the top Dodger Arizona Prospect, and he was picked by BA as the 3rd best prospect in the league. My own pick was Jonathan Garcia who BA picked as the ninth best prospect in the league. Three Dodgers got into the top 20 and two almost made it in Nick Akins and Carlos Frias.  For detailed Baseball America analysis click on the jump and you will see quotes like this about Jonathan Garcia.

No AZL player boosted his prospect stock this season as much as Webster
올해 AZL Dodgers에서 투타에 대표적인 두 선수에 대한 아주 간락한 코맨트입니다. 올해 8라운드로 지명한 조나단 가르시아(Jonathan Garcia)의 경우는 스틸픽이란 얘기를 하고 웹스터의 경우는 AZL 전체로도 가장 좋은 투수중에 하나란 소리를 하는군요.

Allen Webster, rhp, Dodgers B-T: R-R Ht.: 6-2 Wt.: 165 Age: 19 Drafted: Dodgers '08 (18th) No AZL player boosted his prospect stock this season as much as Webster, who's listed in the MLB database by his first name (Carl) but prefers to go by his middle name. An 18th-round pick in 2008, he walked 17 batters in 18 innings during his first pro season in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. After moving to Arizona when the Dodgers shifted their complex-based affiliate, he posted a 56-14 K-BB ratio in 48 innings before continuing to excel following a promotion to the Rookie-level Pioneer League. Though Webster still is growing into his 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame, he already has a fastball that reaches 94-95 mph. He throws strikes with his heater, as well as with a plus breaking ball and a promising changeup that he needs to use more often. Dodgers pitching instructor George Culver said an improved delivery was the key to Webster's big step forward. "He had a lot of issues with it last year. He was a green pea," said Culver. "His mechanics right now are as good as you want to see with a kid with no more pitching experience than he's had."
AZL 유망주 랭킹 3위에 선정된 칼 웹스터는 본인의 펄스트 네임보단 미들 네임을 선호한다는군요. 해서 어딜 찾든지 칼 웹스터(Carl Webster)로 불려지기 보단 앨런 웹스터(Allen Webster)로 불려지기를 선호한다네요. 작년 18라운드(전체 547번픽)로 뽑힌 웹스터는 작년에 18이닝동안 17개의 볼넷을 허용하면서 자신의 첫 프로시즌을 망쳤지만 다저스가 GCL에서 AZL로 옮겨왔고, 1990년 2월생인 웹스터는 자신의 신체조건이 성장하면서 성적도 같이 성장하는 모습을 보여줬습니다. 그는 최고 95마일의 페스트볼과 좋은 브레이킹 볼을 던지지만, 체인지업을 더 자주 던질 필요가 있다는군요. 이 말은 아직 완성단계가 아닌거 같습니다. 이제 겨우 AZL를 졸업하고 파이오니아 리그로 진입한 선수에게 너무 많은것을 바라네요. 일단 다저스의 피칭 인스트럭터인 조지 콜버(George Culver)씨는 웹스터의 개선된 딜리버리가 올시즌 성장의 주요 원인으로 꼽았습니다. 저기 green pea는 정확하게는 모르겠으나 앞에 문장을 생각해보면 미숙한 녀석쯤으로 해석가능하지 않나 싶네요. 지금 웹스터의 메커닉은 아주 좋다는데 결국 작년에 실패를 거울삼아 투구폼의 수정을 가한게 딜리버리도 같이 손본거 같습니다. 위키피디아를 검색해보니 피칭 인스트럭터인 콜버씨는 한때(1968년) 레즈 소속으로 필리스를 상대로 노히트경기를 했다는군요. 홈타운이 CA인지라 이곳에서 활동하나 봅니다.

Jonathan Garcia, of, Dodgers B-T: R-R Ht.: 5-11 Wt.: 175 Age: 17 Drafted: Dodgers '09 (8) The Dodgers may have gotten a steal when they selected Garcia out of Puerto Rico in the eighth round of the 2009 draft. He had a reputation in high school as a player who was better in workouts than in games, but that wasn't the case in the AZL. He hit .304 with 16 doubles in 138 at-bats. Garcia, 17, is very aggressive at the plate and the ball jumps off his bat. He has power to all fields and is expected to get stronger. He worked closely with hitting coach Leo Garcia and continually made adjustments during games. Garcia doesn't have the speed to play center field, where he saw some action in Arizona, but his plus arm should allow him to handle right field. He has below-average speed but could get quicker with better technique, as he currently runs on his heels. "He's a hard-working kid," Dodgers manager Jeff Carter said. "He wants to learn and has fun playing the game."
올해 다저스의 8라운드(전체 247번픽)로 뽑힌 조나단 가르시아(Jonathan Garcia)는 옆에 사진에서 보시다시피 아주 작은 신체사이즈입니다. 5피트 11인치면 180cm가 약간 넘는 신장인데 제가 볼땐 180cm안되는거 같네요. 암튼 앞에 말했다시피 이 선수를 8라운드로 지명한 것은 스틸픽이라고 합니다. 역시 사람은 기회가 생겼을때 캐취를 잘해야하나 봅니다. 실제 경기에서 뛸때보다 워크아웃에서 더 좋았다는군요. 일단 올시즌 138타수동안 20개의 장타(16 2루타, 1 3루타, 3HR)을 뽑아내며 신체적인 조건보다 훨씬 업사이드한 모습을 보여줬습니다. 1991년 11월생이다보니 신체조건이 더 성장할 가능성은 충분해 보입니다. 남미선수 특유의 타석에서 공격적인 성향때문인지 단지 10개의 볼넷(37SO)만을 얻어냈지만, 그의 파워는 필드 곳곳에 공을 뿌릴 수 있으며(솔직히 이 맨트 너무 식상합니다...이젠), 더 성장할 것으로 예상된다는군요. AZL Dodgers의 타격코치인 니오 가르시아(Leo Garcia)가 경기 도중에도 타격에 대해 수정을 가했다는군요. 가르시아는 올시즌 중견수로 출전하기도 했지만 그의 어깨를 생각해볼때 우익수가 더 어울린다는군요. 참고로 그가 41경기에 출전하는동안 우익수로 28경기, 중견수로 12경기, 좌익수로 1경기 출전했습니다. 우익수로 게임당 레인지는 1.57이군요. 가르시아는 평균이상의 스피드를 보유하고 있지만 더 좋은 테크닉으로 더 빠르다는군요. 올해 도루자없이 도루만 4개 했습니다. AZL Dodgers의 감독인 제프 카터(Jeff Carter)씨는 가르시아가 게임마다 배우길 원하고 경기를 즐긴다고 하네요.

19. Danny Danielson, rhp, Dodgers B-T: R-R Ht.: 6-4 Wt.: 220 Age: 20 Signed: Dodgers '07 (7th) Danielson is a product of Russell County (Ala.) High, the same school that produced first-round or sandwich picks Kasey Kiker and Colby and Cory Rasmus. A seventh-rounder in 2007, Daniels pitched just 30 innings in his first two years as a pro. After losing 30 pounds in the offseason, he completed an entire season and managers noted his ability to put hitters away. "This is the first season we've had him healthy through the whole season," Culver said. "He's made huge strides. He's been a pleasant surprise." Danielson's fastball topped out at 88-89 mph in 2009, though he reached 93 in the past. His best pitch is an outstanding changeup, and he also uses a big, slow curveball. Culver believes that Danielson will need a harder breaking ball in order to remain a starter, so he may switch to a slider.
07년 다저스의 7라운드(전체 236번픽)로 지명된 데니 다니엘슨(Danny Danielson)은 콜비 & 코리 라스무스 형제가 졸업한 고등학교 출신이라고 합니다. 첫 프로 2년동안 부상으로 단지 30.1이닝만 투구한 다니엘슨은 시즌 전 30파운드(13.6kg)이나 감량하면서 부상없이 시즌을 뛰었습니다. 이 선수는 평균 88마일의 공을 던졌는데, 최고 구속은 93마일이라네요. 체인지업이 아주 좋으며 느린 커브도 잘 활용한다고 합니다. 콜버씨는 다니엘슨이 선발로 계속 유지하기 위해서는 더 네스티한 브레이킹볼을 던질 필요가 있다고 합니다. 커브를 줄이고 슬라이더를 던질 필요가 있다네요. 이 선수가 얼마나 더 큰 레벨로 올라갈지는 모르겠으나 올라가면 갈수록 릴리프가 될 가능성이 높아보이네요.

John (Los Angeles): Did Dodger prospect Nick Akins get any consideration for the top 20, or did his age play a factor?

Bill Mitchell : Akins got a lot of consideration. While he's already 21 he's still relatively inexperienced in that he hasn't played at any big baseball programs. When it came down to cutting the list, I didn't include him not so much because of his age but because he's likely to be strictly a left fielder. He's very athletic and was well respected this summer. His manager said that he believes that Akins can move quickly. But for me it came down to the defense.
이것은 팬이 질문한 것인데, 닉 아킨스(Nick Akins)는 왜 탑 20에 뽑히지 않았냐고 묻고 있네요. 단순히 나이때문인가요? 하는 질문인데, 역시 그렇다네요. 원래 BA가 툴과 나이를 중시하는 곳이기때문에 21살의 아킨스는 아무래도 힘들지 않았나 싶습니다. 그렇지만 아주 좋은 운동신경을 보유한 아킨스의 경우는 빠르게 승격할 수 있다는군요. 그리고 LF로 뛰고 있는 아킨스의 경우는 수비포지션에서의 어드벤티지도 사실상 없죠.

Bill Mitchell: I mentioned Nick Akins in a previous post. The guy who came really, really close was pitcher Carlos Frias. He's got a very good arm, hitting 96 with his fastball and has an excellent changeup. Command of the breaking ball is his biggest area for improvement. He's still relatively inexperienced but made great progress this year. A year from now I may be kicking myself for not slotting him onto the list somewhere.
탑 20에는 들지 못했지만 다저스 소속의 카를로스 프리아스(Carlos Frias)도 좋은 선수라는군요. 최고 96마일의 페스트볼과 좋은 체인지업을 던진다고 합니다. 단지 브레이킹볼을 개선시켜야한다고 합니다. 그렇지만 내년에 이 순위에 안들수도 있다네요. 이 소리는 프리아스가 더 높은 레벨로 승격해서 AZL 유망주랭킹에서 제외된다는 소리인지, 아님 유망주라고 불려지는 레벨에서 추락한다는 소리인지는 잘 모르겠습니다.
