할러데이 루머에 대한 상반된 시각

The Dodgers may be considered a longshot to get Roy Halladay from Toronto because they have made left-hander Clayton Kershaw untouchable. Smart. But Los Angeles still thinks it has a decent fit with Toronto even if the prospects the Blue Jays like, including third baseman Josh Bell, aren't exactly going to be big leaguers immediately. The Dodgers want a starting pitcher who would be certain to start one of the first three games of a playoff series. So, no, that does not mean Jarrod Washburn. It's either Halladay, Cliff Lee or nothing. The Dodgers would still like another arm for their bullpen, such as Arizona's Chad Qualls or Baltimore's George Sherrill.

While the Phillies remain almost everyone's favorite to land superstar pitcher Roy Halladay, and the best-in-baseball Dodgers are now believed to be showing interest, two big-market contenders for the summer's big pitching prize -- the Yankees and Red Sox -- recently have been informed by the Blue Jays that their chances to land Halladay are slim.

The potential issue for the Dodgers is that most of those young players are already producing at the big-league level and contributing to the team that has held baseball's best record almost from the start of the season. The Dodgers surely wouldn't want to subtract from their rotation by offering ace pitcher Chad Billingsley or 21-year-old Clayton Kershaw, and might also have difficulty including either of their young outfield talents, Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier -- though they do have veteran Juan Pierre waiting to fill in ably. Without the inclusion of Kemp or Ethier, it's questionable whether L.A. could entice the Jays with young pitcher James McDonald, pitching prospects Ethan Martin and Josh Lindblom, shortstop Ivan DeJesus Jr. and a few others.

The Dodgers already have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball -- statistically speaking, anyway. But they are looking for relief now. And their excellent performance thus far also won't prevent them from trying to enhance their playoff rotation with a major pitching pickup, which explains why Halladay and Cliff Lee apparently head their wish list of starting pitchers.

Of course, L.A. will have stiff competition for Halladay, and Lee's chances to be dealt still appear remote. One person familiar with the Indians' thinking said they are even more reluctant to trade Lee than beloved slugger Victor Martinez. Both players have 2010 options at club-friendly prices ($9 million for Lee, $7 million for Martinez), and while Martinez is a wonderful clubhouse presence, Lee is viewed as perhaps even more valuable to them because they don't have pitching reinforcements who could replace Lee. If the Indians were to deal either star, they'd insist on young pitching in return.
물론 다저스는 할러데이와 클리프 리 루머에서 많은 거리감이 있다. 클리브랜드를 잘 아는 관계자에 따르면 (그들은) 빅마보다는 클리프 리에게 덜 관심을 쏟고 있다. 왜냐하면 둘다 내년에 클럽옵션이 남아있지만 빅마는 클럽하우스에서 인기가 많은 반면, 클리프 리는 단지 그를 이용해 더 가치있는 (값싸고 빅리그에 도달한)투수를 데려올려는 목적이기 때문이다. 만약 클리브랜드가 빅마나 클리프 리 둘 중 하나로 딜을 시도한다면 그들은 어린 투수를 데려올려고 할 것이다.

If Halladay and Lee can't be had, it's possible the Dodgers could consider one of two Seattle starters -- Jarrod Washburn or Erik Bedard -- should the Mariners fall out of the race. Beyond that, there won't be much else out there that could help them.
다저스는 이 둘을 데려오지 못할 경우 그들의 레이더는 시애틀의 두명의 투수에게 쏟을 것이다. 물론 시애틀이 지구우승 레이스에서 탈락한다면 말이다.

공교롭게도 40분의 격차를 두고 같은 회사의 두 기자가 약간은 상반된 시각으로 글을 썼네요.
그리고 헤이먼은 다저스가 할러데이나 클리프 리를 데려오지 못한다면 제 3의 옵션을 생각한다는 글도 썼는데 이 부분도 상반되네요. 워시번이야 올시즌 끝나면 FA이니 많은 것을 얻진 못하겠지만, 베다드같은 경우는 그들이 볼티모어에게 줬던만큼 받아내야 한다는 생각이 있을것이라고 보고 시애틀의 GM이 작년과 올해가 다르고 갭차이가 있는 똘똘한 단장이 왔기에 베다드를 얻으려면 아마.... 그들의 말을 다저스팬들이 듣는순간 뒷목잡을거란 생각도 드네요.
다저스의 팜이 현재 허접한건 사실이지만, 헤일먼이 주장했던 저 마이너리거 유망주들의 조합으로 할러데이를 데려온다면 스틸이란 소리같더군요. 근대 만약에 데려온데도 골치꺼리인게 그들이 없다면 다저스의 미래는 그나마 확률이라는게 있었던 수준에서 %라는 것조차도 없어지게 될거 같다는 생각이 들었습니다.

더군다나 이 두 기자가 간과한게 있는데 과연 그들은 다저스의 재정상태에는 관심이 있을까....라는 겁니다. 왜 다저스가 돈이 없다라는 사실은 다저스팬들과 다저스관련 기자들만 주장할까요? 그들에게는 아직도 이 소리가 거짓말인줄 아나 봅니다.
