The Los Angeles Dodgers have never felt more comfortable at home in their 48 years at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers tied the modern major league record for the longest home winning streak to start a season, improving to 12-0 as Jeff Weaver pitched them to a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers matched the best home start in MLB history, tying the 1911 Tigers with a 12-0 record at Dodgers Stadium.

오늘 33,557명의 관중이 들어왔는데, NL홈 연승 신기록과 ML타이를 이루는 이런 영광(?)스러운 자리를 함께하기에는 조금 부족하지 않았나 싶습니다.
어제 스테이플스센터에서의 패배가 영향을 끼치지않았나 하는 생각도 해봅니다.

The Dodgers have the highest team batting average and on-base percentage in the NL, while the D-Backs rank dead last in both figures. To put their numbers in perspective, the Dodgers .282/.373/.426 line compares favorably with Ichiro's .330/.376/.430 career averages. The D-Backs .226/.298/.385 line looks awfully similiar to Angel Berroa's career .260/.304/.377 line, and their .683 OPS is nearly identical to his .681 career OPS. And keep in mind that we're almost 30 games into the season, its not like its only been a week. The D-Backs are in a truly epic offensive slump. Which lineup do you think would score more, one with eight Ichiro's or eight Berroa's?

The last hope for the D-Backs is that they have been getting unlucky on offense while the Dodgers have been lucky. This is somewhat true, although the rebound will be nowhere near enough to make up for the huge disparity in the two offenses. The D-Backs have the lowest BABIP (batting average on balls in play) in the majors, .266. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have the second highest, .327. The D-Backs offense should improve to mediocre levels while the Dodgers should regress down to merely very good. Hopefully that won't be enough to make up for the Dodgers substantial division lead.
The Giants will have no such improvement on offense. They are 12th in BABIP with a .307 mark, so their offense really is just that bad.

The Dodgers are taking more and more pitches. "That is a plan," Torre said.
Patience is something Torre and his coaches have preached from the time he took over last season.
In 2007, under then-manager Grady Little, the Dodgers saw an average of 3.63 pitches per plate appearance and ranked second to last in the majors in that category, according to Stats LLC.
That number increased to 3.81 in Torre's first season and is up to 3.96 this year, which ranks second in the majors to the Colorado Rockies (4.02).
"It's just being more selective," Ethier said. "All of the young guys are comfortable with it."
The Dodgers lead the majors with 133 walks.

Ethier, who has drawn 18 walks in the Dodgers' 28 games, is one of four Dodgers with 15 or more free passes, the others being Ramirez (25), James Loney (16) and Orlando Hudson (15).
Long games were the norm for the New York Yankees when Torre managed them, so much so that they were urged by the commissioner's office in 1998 to pick up the pace of their games. Torre said he didn't change the way he managed.

"Your purpose isn't to make the games longer," Torre said. "Your purpose is to do what you need to do."

Stults shines

Eric Stults might have saved his spot in the rotation Monday night when he threw 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball. The solid outing followed a calamity five days earlier in San Francisco, where he lasted 2 2/3 innings.

Stults said he was helped by the addition of a cut fastball that he started throwing in his last bullpen session.

"I'll continue to work on it," Stults said.
