The Dodgers have talked to representatives for free-agent pitchers Randy Wolf, Vicente Padilla and Joel Pineiro, but the club won't talk multi-year contracts and agent Adam Katz said that's what it will take to sign them. Wolf and Padilla started five of the Dodgers' eight post-season games this year, while Pineiro started one for St. Louis. After landing Wolf last January for a $5 million base (that grew to $8 million with incentives), the Dodgers apparently believe similar one-year bargains will be available later and seem willing to wait out the market.

얼마전 dodgertalk에서 다저스는 또 시장을 관망하다가 계약하지 못한 선수와 2월에 계약할거라면서 비이냥 거렸는데, 그것과 유사한 형태가 될거라고 다저스의 출입기자가 공식적으로(?) 확인해줬습니다.

On Saturday, I wrote that the Reds had some interest in infielder Jamey Carroll but there still have been no talks. Carroll grew up in Evansville, Ind. and was a fan of the Reds as a kid.

"We would certainly entertain an offer," Carroll's agent, Jonathan Maurer said on Tuesday. "We would love to play for the Reds."

Maurer is in Indy and said Carroll has drawn interest from other clubs and there have been talks. Reds GM Walt Jocketty said on Monday that he was looking for a utility player that can hit and play shortstop.

Carroll, 36, spent the last two seasons with the Indians and he batted .276 with two homers and 24 RBIs. He's a lifetime .273 hitter with a .351 on-base percentage since 2002 with the Expos/Nationals, Rockies and Cleveland.

The Dodgers have made Vance Lovelace director of pro scouting, giving the advisor to Ned Colletti a department of his own to run.

Hired as a scout in 2001, Lovelace was promoted to special assistant to the general manager three years ago, advising on a wide variety of personnel decisions. The change today is that Lovelace now gets a specific department to helm.

Though he lacks their assistant general manager titles, this move puts Lovelace virtually on a par with Logan White (amateur scouting), DeJon Watson (player development) and Kim Ng (administration - i.e., everything else).
