Scouting Report:
Rockies: Hammel hasn't been sharp lately, and he knows it. In his last start, on Sunday against the Cubs, Hammel gave up 11 hits and had only one 1-2-3 frame in his five-plus innings. Yet he picked up the victory, yielding just three runs -- all earned. In his his past seven starts, Hammel has a 6.48 ERA, though the Rockies have won four of those starts. Hammel's problem right now is that he can't throw his fastball on a downhill plane, thus the pitch is coming out of his hand flat. Therefore, hitters have been able to square up on him.
Marlins: It wasn't vintage Josh Johnson in his last start, but the 6-foot-7 right-hander was effective enough to collect his 11th win and 18th quality start in 23 overall outings this season. At Philadelphia, the 25-year-old ace gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk. He was lifted after 85 pitches and 55 strikes, but he had some stressful innings. Three double plays helped Johnson get out of jams. The Marlins are 18-5 with the righty on the mound. On May 9 at Colorado, Johnson beat the Rockies, giving up one run in eight innings. Johnson has pitched 154 innings this year; his career high is 157, which came during his 2006 season as a rookie.

Scouting Report:
Rockies: Cook left his last start, a 3-1 loss to the Phillies, after five innings and 73 pitches with a hyperextended right big toe. The injury led to his being removed from a start Monday against the Pirates. He suffered it backing up third on Jimmy Rollins' triple. In that contest, Cook was toe-to-toe with the Phillies' Cliff Lee but threw two bad pitches -- one Paul Bako hit for his first homer of the season, the other the triple by Rollins. Cook is 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA in two starts at Florida.
Marlins: VandenHurk had his share of baserunners against the Astros on Monday, but he got out of trouble most of the time and got the win after giving up just two runs. Still, the three walks and five hits put his pitch count at 97 after five innings, ending his start a bit early. VandenHurk, taking the No. 4 spot in the rotation with Anibal Sanchez on the disabled list and youngsters Andrew Miller and Sean West fighting inconsistency, has now given up no more than two runs in four of his five starts for Florida this year. He gave up two runs in 4 1/3 innings during his only career start against the Rockies.
