You Hit Ours, We’ll Hit Yours!

Chad Billingsley was roundly criticized last year in the playoffs against the Phillies for failing to hit a  batter after manny had been hit.  I can see the logic, but do you really want your starter ejected in that situation?  Maybe, maybe not, but someone does have to hit their guy at some point. Russ Martin said it best : "It’s protection.  It’s just about keeping the team unified and pulling the wagons together." The Dodgers are simply send a message that they won’t play SOFT when it comes to hitting their guys.
작년 플옵에서 매니가 필리스의 투수에게 헤드샷을 당한 후 빌링슬리가 적절한 대응을 하지않아 엄청나게 까인것을 기억하느냐? 물론 그건 당연한 진리겠지만, 그런 상황에서 선발투수가 '맞헤드샷'을 날린다면 누가 선발투수를 대처할까? 하지만, 결국 그 누군가는 그것을 해줬어야 했다. 이에 러셀 마틴은 이렇게 말했다. "바로 우리팀을 하나로 만들려는 보호의 목적입니다." 그리고 다저스는 오늘의 행동으로 결코 말랑말랑한(SOFT) 팀이 아니라는 것을 상대팀에게 경고해줬다.

Manny was plunked in the 7th inning, but the Dodgers waited until the 9th inning to drill Prince Fielder, and Mota hit him in the thigh, so what’s the problem?  I can see wanting to fight if you are hit in the head, but Prince should know this is the way you play the game.  You hit our best hitter, we hit yours!  It’s that simple!  Fielder was lucky he didn’t get into the Dodgers clubhouse, because the Dodgers would have beat the crap out of him!   I don’t care how big he is.  That’s felony stupid!
매니가 7회에 스미스에게 빈볼을 맞았지만, 다저스는 꾹 참았다. 아직 필더가 타석에 들어오지 않았기 때문에... 그리고 필더가 타석에 들어왔고, 모타는 그의 허벅지를 맞췄다. 뭐가 문제지?(문제될게 뭐지?) 분명 헤드샷을 날렸다면 벤치클리어링이 일어났겠지만, 필더도 게임의 흐름을 알고 있었다. 바로 '너네들이 우리 타자들을 맞췄다면, 우리도 그러하리라!' 라는 단순한 진리를. 필더는 나중에 다저스 클럽하우스 침입을 시도했지만 불발로 끝났다.

Look for some more bad blood tonight as Jason Schmidt goes for the Dodgers (hold your breath – you never know how he will do).   If the Brewers brush our guys back or hit anyone tonight, we have to retailiate RIGHT AWAY, especially with Schmidt on the mound.  A good fight can galvanize a team and I’m still waiting for Joe Torre and Larry Bowa to get ejected.
분명 맥주네는 우리팀 타자를 맞췄고, 다저스는 그걸 바로 응징해줬을뿐이다. 그리고 이러한 것이 팀을 더욱 자극하는 좋은 결과가 될 것이다. 더 나아가 난 조(Joe Torre)와 보아(Larry Bowa)가 퇴장당하는 모습을 보고 싶을 뿐이다.
