Joe Torre is abusing players already

토레는 어떤 선수에게 무리한 의무를 부과하지 않겠다는 말을 했다. 하지만, 그는 자신의 발언을 깜빡 잊었나 보다. 그는 파즈전에서 웨이드(Cory Wade)를 백투백으로 써버렸던 것이다.
Yesterday, I questioned whether or not Joe Torre would actually stick with his promises to rest certain players. At the time, it slipped my mind that he had just used Cory Wade in back-to-back games in April against the Padres. I have posted about Wade being abused by Torre before, so I wasn't exactly thrilled that it took Torre 4 days to restart the abuse again.

If there's any question that the workload is a problem, then just take a look at how Wade was injured last year, how it affected him into Spring Training, and how his velocity is slowly decreasing this year.

적절한 스캠 등판이후 정규시즌 첫 등판이었던 4월 6일 그는 괜찮았다는게 증명된다.
After being used somewhat judiciously in Spring Training (8 Games), Wade looked good in the season opener against the Padres on April 6th.

그의 구속은 89-90마일대와 최고 92마일까지 찍었고, 작년에 평균 구속이 89.1마일이었다는걸 생각해봤을때 평범했다.
From this, you can see that he's sitting in the 89-90 mph range and touching 92. For Wade, that's almost better than normal, as his average fastball came in at 89.1 mph last year.

Anyway, after a game off, he pitched against the Padres again on April 8th.

하루 쉬고 등판했던 8일 그는 여전히 그의 평균 구속을 찍었고, 최고 90마일까지 나왔고 여전히 괜찮다.
There's still not much to be alarmed about here. He's now sitting at 89 mph more consistently, and he's topping out at 90, but this is normal for him.

At this point, Torre makes the decision to pitch Wade on consecutive days for the first time in 2009.

하지만, 토레는 그를 백투백으로 등판시켰고, 내가 본것보다 좋지 않았다. 그의 평균 구속은 첫 등판보다 거의 1.5마일가량 떨어졌고 최고 구속역시 떨어졌다.
그렇게 괜찮은거 같지않지만, 그의 pitch by pitch를 보면 90마일 이상의 공을 던진게 거의 없다.
Okay, this is more of what i'd rather not see from him. His average fastball has now dropped almost a 1.5 mph since his season debut, and he's topping out at lower and lower levels as well. It may not seem like much, but going through his game logs, it's rare to see Wade never throwing a fastball above 90 mph.

물론 이는 작은 샘플(오차범위가 큰) 사이즈지만, 기록은 계속 쌓일 것이다.
작년 웨이드는 어깨문제로 DL에 한번 갔다왔고, 복귀 후 그는 딱 한 번 백투백으로 등판했다. 그 결과 그는 꽤 괜찮았다.
찾아보니 DL이후에 백투백 등판은 1번이 아니라 3번이더군요.
2번의 정규시즌(9월 9~10일 & 9월 20~21일)과 1번의 포스트시즌(10월 12~13일)
물론 이 기간에 릴리프진들은 전부 최악이었고, 믿을 사람이라곤 브락스턴을 제외하고 쿼홍치가 유일했습니다.
Now this is obviously a small sample size, but it's something to keep track of from here on out. Remember, after Wade went down with soreness last year, the Dodgers pitched him on back-to-back days only once the rest of the way. The result? He was brilliant.

또 다른 문제는 웨이드의 투구 메커니즘이나 유전적인 문제에 관한 의문인데, 내가 본바로는 그의 메커니즘에는 전혀 문제가 없었다. 유전적인 결함이 있다해도, 그건 감독이 적절하게 컨트롤해야할 문제다. 결국 다저스는 쿼홍치와 같이 웨이드를 보호해줘야 한다.
Another question is whether or not Wade's woes are a matter of mechanics or genetics and not workload. Sure, that's always a possibility, but there's nothing wrong with Wade's mechanics from what i've seen. And even if it is just a genetic weakness, that problem would still need to be identified and addressed by the manager. They've finally taken precautions with Kuo, so hopefully it doesn't take 4 arm surgeries for them to get the point with Wade.
