The Dodgers finally announced new manager Don Mattingly's coaching staff, which will be younger than the one that served predecessor Joe Torre, and with stronger Dodgers ties.

New to the staff in 2011: third-base coach Tim Wallach, first-base coach Davey Lopes, bench coach Trey Hillman and hitting instructor Dave Hansen.

Returning from last season: pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, hitting instructor Jeff Pentland (who was promoted to primary hitting coach), bullpen coach Ken Howell and assistant coach Manny Mota. Wallach, Lopes, Hansen, Honeycutt, Howell and Mota all played for the Dodgers.

His hiring marks a homecoming for Lopes, the four-time All-Star who was part of a record-breaking Dodgers infield before being dealt in 1982 when the organization undertook a youth movement. Lopes, 65, has become one of the preeminent baserunning coaches in the game.

Lopes, who was on the Phillies' staff from 2007-10, was the baserunning and outfield coach credited with instilling his aggressive style in players like Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins and Jayson Werth. Philadelphia had the best stolen-base percentage in baseball during his time as coach. Lopes also brings managerial experience, having guided the Brewers from 2000 until 16 games into the 2002 season. His record with Milwaukee was 144-195.

The Dodgers' first-base coaching job has been handled the past five years by Mariano Duncan, who was told at the end of the season that he could look for a Major League job elsewhere, and if he didn't find one, a job somewhere in the organization would be available to him.

Lopes, who lives in the San Diego suburb of Point Loma, previously spent eight seasons as first-base coach for the Padres. He played 16 full or partial seasons in the Major Leagues, the first 10 with the Dodgers as a base-stealing leadoff catalyst on a team that went to the World Series four times, winning in 1981 as Lopes was being phased out of the lineup.

The 47-year-old Hillman, who managed the Royals from 2008 until he was replaced by Ned Yost on May 13, 2010, also managed the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters to a Japan League championship in 2006, leading to his hiring by the Royals, where he was popular with his players, though the club went 152-207. His link to Mattingly: having managed 12 seasons in the Yankees Minor League system from 1990-2001. He spent three years playing in the Cleveland Minor League system before moving into scouting.

For the past two seasons, Wallach, 53, managed the club's Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque. Wallach was the Dodgers' batting coach in 2004 and 2005, but has said he felt detached from the game in that role.

Hansen, sixth on the all-time list with 138 career pinch-hits, had two stints with the Dodgers during a 15-year Major League career and also played in Japan. The 42-year-old spent the past three seasons as a Minor League hitting coordinator with the D-backs.

The Dodgers have agreed to terms on a minor league split contract with left-hander Dana Eveland, according to a baseball source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been announced.

Eveland, 27, pitched in 12 games (including 10 starts) for the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates last season. He was 3-5 with a 6.79 earned-run average. A graduate of Palmdale High School, Eveland has a career record of 16-22 with a 5.74 ERA.
다저스가 좌완투수 다나 이블랜드(Dana Eveland)와 스플릿 계약을 맺었다고 합니다. 아직 딜이 완전히 발표되지 않았지만, 작년에 토론토와 피츠버그에서 엄청 망가져버렸기에 이렇게 마이너계약을 맺을 수 있었나 보네요.
