CHICAGO - Just how fervent is the South Side (White Sox) and North Side (Cubs) rivalry in this baseball-crazed city?

The father of John Ely will not see his son pitch in person today against the Cubs out of loyalty to his beloved White Sox.

"He refuses to come to Wrigley Field," John Ely said. "I don't blame him."

The entire Ely family grew up White Sox fans in the South Side neighborhood of Homewood and rejoiced when John was drafted by the Sox in 2007. His trade to the Dodgers in December was somewhat bittersweet for the family but ultimately allowed Ely a path to the big leagues.

Ely's immediate family flew to New York for his major league debut, a 7-3 loss to the Mets. Ely hasn't lost since.

Ely's father, Jack, said in an interview two weeks ago that he'd likely watch the game on television and meet the rest of the family for dinner afterward. That Jack Ely depends on a wheelchair for mobility is another reason he's hesitant to visit the 96-year-old ballpark.

His son will have plenty of support. The 24-year-old pitcher left 10 tickets for family and friends but expects dozens more to attend today's game.

 낼 리글리 필드에서 선발 등판하는 존 일라이의 경기를 아버지가 보러 올만한데 시카고 남쪽에 거주하며 가족이 모두 화이트삭스 팬인지라 리글리 필드에 경기를 보러 오지 않기로 했다고 합니다.메츠에서 데뷔전을 가질때도 가족들끼리 저녁 후에 TV로 시청했다고 말하는 일라이 아버지는 화이트삭스 팬인 이유말고도 휠체어의 이동성 문제로 인해서 96년된 리글리의 방문을 꺼리게 됐다고 합니다.일라이는 가족들과 친구들에게 10장의 티켓을 줬는데 이번 게임에서 12명 이상이 응원 올것 같다고 하네요.(저번 다저스 홈 경기는 티켓 주는걸 몰라서 가족들이 돈 내고 들어왔다고 하죠.)

ETHIER PROGRESSING

Andre Ethier took live batting practice for the second consecutive day and appears close to rejoining the Dodgers when he's eligible to come off the disabled list on Sunday, or shortly thereafter.

The Dodgers expect Ethier to need a couple of minor league rehabilitation starts before he's activated, preferably at Class AAA Albuquerque. Ethier may take part in a simulated game Saturday in Denver.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre was impressed with Ethier's batting practice session Tuesday and said his right fielder did not appear to be favoring his broken right pinkie.

Ethier has constructed padding along the knobs of his batting practice bats to cushion the finger.

"I thought he was pretty seamless as far as trying to protect it in any way," Torre said.

PADILLA THROWS

Injured starter Vicente Padilla is scheduled to throw a simulated game Saturday in Denver and will likely begin a three-game rehabilitation assignment in the two weeks following, Dodgers trainer Stan Conte said.

Padilla threw a bullpen session Wednesday and displayed all his pitches.

 조 토레가 선택한 빈센트 파디야가 회복속도가 생각보다 빨라서인지 이번주 토요일 덴버에서 시뮬레이션 게임을 갖고 그 이후 2주동안 세게임 리햅을 통해 빅리그 복귀를 준비할 거라고 합니다.오늘 파디야는 불펜 세션을 가졌고 자신의 모두 구질을 다 던졌다고 하네요.

ADDING A PITCHER

The Dodgers expect to add a pitcher to their 11-man staff sometime before Friday, Torre said. The pitcher will most certainly come from Albuquerque, but it's unclear what the corresponding move will be.

Scott Elbert, Brent Leach, Jon Link, James McDonald and Travis Schlichting are on the 40-man roster and would be the most likely call-ups.
