He'll be back

The way injured outfielder Andre Ethier was launching balls out of Wrigley Field in batting practice Tuesday leaves the Dodgers optimistic he'll be back in right field by next week.

Ethier has made dramatic progress in his recovery from a broken finger because of a splint that immobilizes the broken joint in the little finger of his right hand. He was able to catch, swing off a tee and hit soft-toss over the weekend, but Tuesday was his first day hitting live batting practice.

When Ethier was injured while taking batting practice May 15, the prognosis for his return was anywhere from two to six weeks. At the time, he was leading the league in all three Triple Crown categories -- batting average, home runs and RBIs.
최대 6주까지 예상되었던 그의 부상은 생각보다 회복속도가 빨라서 예정된 DL해제기간안에 돌아 올 수 있다고 하는데, 여전히 그의 성적은 트리플 크라운 리더급의 성적으로 남겨져있습니다. 그가 DL로 가기전까지 얼마나, 엄청난 활약을 해줬느냐를 짐작할 수 있는 대목이 아닐까 싶네요.

"He's doing a lot of things we didn't anticipate this early," said manager Joe Torre. "We want it to feel normal. The last thing we want is to get him into bad habits. If it's uncomfortable, you know he'll have trouble doing it."

Ethier is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Monday. He is scheduled to participate in a simulated game Saturday in Denver with Vicente Padilla, who is also on the DL, pitching.

If it goes well for Padilla, who has been on the DL since April 23 with an inflamed radial nerve, he could be ready for a Minor League rehab assignment of about three starts.

And if the simulated game goes well for Ethier, he might not need any Minor League rehab assignment and be activated Monday.
토레는 예상했던것보다 빠른 회복속도라고 하며, 오늘 보아(Larry Bowa)가 KCAL과의 인터뷰에서 오늘 당장 출전할 정도로 몸이 괜찮다고 말했으니 회복속도는 우리가 생각했던 것 이상일 것입니다.

일단 이띠어는 덴버로 날아가 토요일에 시뮬레이션 경기를 치를 것이라고 하는군요. 그리고 투수는 역시 DL에 있는 파디야(Vicente Padilla)가 담당할 것이라고 합니다. 파디야의 경우 3경기 정도의 마이너리헵을 준비중이지만, (토레에 따르면) 이띠어는 마이너 리헵없이 바로 합류할 것이라고 하는군요.
