Can youth carry the dodgers?

다저스는 지금 NL 서부에서 최고의 팀이며, 아마 올시즌 끝에는 NL 최고의 팀 중에 하나가 될 것이다.
The Dodgers are clearly the best team in the National League West right now. We'll see whether they are going to end up being the best in the National League overall.

We know their lineup is really good. I was there the day Manny Ramirez signed with the team, and we all knew as soon as that happened that the Dodgers would be in decent shape. In talking to the players, I keep hearing that everyone felt a change when Manny joined the team last year. They averaged about half a run higher every game after he came over from Boston. That's a significant boost. And when he re-signed with L.A. this year, all the other hitters exhaled.

The Dodgers have their big guy in the middle, and his presence makes Andre Ethier and James Loney better hitters and drops Casey Blake to eighth in the order. So we knew the Dodgers were taken care offensively once they finally got Manny signed.

또한 미들 인필더에 O-dog과의 계약과 퍼칼의 재계약은 더 좋은 디펜시브 팀이 되었다. 물론 그 이전의 2루수였던 캔트는 우리가 익히 알고 있는것처럼 그렇게 나쁜 수비수는 아닐지라도 그를 대신하여 그 자리에 GG급의 선수를 채워넣었다.
The thing that's a little bit lost is how much Orlando Hudson and the return of Rafael Furcal make them a better defensive team. A scout this spring told me that the Dodgers have the best defensive infield in the NL with Blake, Furcal, Hudson and Loney. Jeff Kent wasn't quite as bad defensively as people thought, but he wasn't very good at the end, and they replaced him with a Gold Glove-caliber second baseman, one who has already made a huge impact in all sorts of ways.

물론 그들이 라인업과는 별개로 선발투수에 관해서는 많은 의문점이 남은체 시즌을 시작했다. 하지만, 지금까지(올시즌) 빌링슬리가 해온 행보는 진정한 에이스의 모습이고 메츠의 산타나와 함께 NL 최고의 투수 중에 하나로 성장했다.
Then you get to their starting pitching, which was the big question on this club to start the season. They didn't have a real ace on the staff, but so far Chad Billingsley, who is 4-0 and starts Tuesday against the Giants, has been an ace in every sense and perhaps, outside of Johan Santana, the best pitcher in the National League this year.

I talked to Billingsley this spring about his recent health issues, and he said he put it all behind him and came into camp 100 percent healthy. He was a very good pitcher last year, and that was kind of missed by most people with the success of Derek Lowe and Manny-mania. He didn't pitch well in the postseason, obviously, but in speaking to some guys with the team, it sounded as though that experience has pushed him forward rather than set him back. Billingsley wasn't very happy with the way the playoffs went and doesn't want to let that happen again.

A friend of mine, before the year even started, picked Billingsley to win the Cy Young this year. I wish I had been that insightful because he has been a Cy Young-caliber pitcher so far.

다시금 다저스가 플옵에 오르고, WS에 진출할 수있다면 그들은 분명 압도적인 선발투수 한명을 미드시즌에 영입해야 할 것이다. 물론 최근에 커쇼의 대단한 활약(13K)을 보여주긴 했지만, 최근 그의 2번의 등판은 최악이었고 어린 투수에게 흔히 나타나는 롤러코스터다.
If the Dodgers are going to win the NL pennant and the World Series, I think they are going to have to add another starting pitcher or see marked improvement from some of the guys on their staff, including Clayton Kershaw who has already had a 13-strikeout performance this season. He was absolutely spectacular that night, but he's been hit hard the past two times out, which is not surprising for a young pitcher.

겨우 21살에 불가하며 이런 어린 투수의 미래를 예측할 수 있을까? 그래서 나는 다저스가 증명된 투수의 영입이 필요하다고 생각한다. 분명 다저스는 돈이 있고 누구를 영입할지, 언제 영입할지는 참으로 흥미로울 것이다.(다저스는 돈이 없는걸로 아는데...기자가 뭘 모르는군요) 물론, 난 피비(Jake Peavy)를 언급한 것이 아니다. 디비전 팀에게 피비를 넘겨준다는 생각은 파즈입장에서는 허용되지 않을 것이고, 더 많은 댓가를 지불해야만 가능한 일이 것이다.
He just turned 21. I think that's part of the issue with the Dodgers. Can they expect that much from such a young staff? That's why I think they need to add a proven starter. They have the money to do it, and it will be interesting to see whom they get and when they get him. By the way, I wouldn't hold out hope for Jake Peavy. When he became available, I asked someone with the Padres, and they said they weren't sure they were interested in trading him within the division, not to mention only about 100 miles up the road.

뭐 그닥 신선한 내용은 아니지만, 오랫만에 ESPN 메인글에 나와서 퍼왔습니다.
이런건 시즌이 흐르고 나면서 차츰생각해야 할 문제이며, 사실상 지금의 문제는 불펜의 운영이 아닐까 싶습니다.
그리고 기사의 90%가량은 이미 우리가 다 알고 있는 사실이라서 재미도 없네요.
