The signing of free-agent reliever Matt Guerrier, made official on Thursday when he passed a physical exam, is another indication of how Dodgers management feels things went wrong in 2010.

It's the pitching.

General manager Ned Colletti is loading up on it this winter. Guerrier -- who leveraged interest from Boston and Colorado to land a three-year, $12 million deal from the Dodgers -- is better-suited for the seventh and eighth innings than the ninth.

The signing of Guerrier gives the Dodgers 41 players on their 40-man roster, so a corresponding move will need to be made. That move (think, something like John Lindsey getting designated for assignment) has not yet been announced.

The deal Martin signed with the Yankees guarantees him $4 million, with up to an additional $1.375 million in performance bonuses based on games caught (regardless of starts). That makes the possible total value of the deal $5.375 million -- still $75,000 more than the maximum Martin could have gotten from the Dodgers. Martin spurned an offer from the Dodgers of a $4.2 million base salary with up to $1.1 million in bonuses based on games started at any position, a deal that would have maxed out at $5.3 million.

"I just really wanted to find out, and the only way to find out how much a team wants you is to take a risk," Martin said Thursday on a media conference call. "Obviously, there was a risk there. I took a chance. For me, it's tough not being able to be with the guys I have always played with, but my main goal is just to have a chance to win. If you want a chance to win, I don't think there is any better place to play than in New York with the Yankees."

마틴 입장에서 보면 이해될만한 상황이기도 하더군요. 즉, 자신은 다저스팜핸드이고 거기서 꾸준히 커리어를 늘려왔는데, 최근에 못하고 부상때문이라지만 논텐더한게 섭섭했다. 논텐더당했으니 차라리 집도 가까운 동부쪽으로 갈련다...거기다가 최근에 다저스는 번번이 (가을에)승리를 쟁취하지도 못했으니 이왕이면 양키스로 갈련다...

뭐 이런 마인드였을 수도 있을거 같습니다.

Brazoban was second in the Mexican League last season with 9.99 strikeouts per nine innings. He previously pitched in parts of five major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, most recently in 2008. He was signed by the New York Mets in mid-August and pitched for Triple-A Buffalo.
