일라이 콜업

John Ely, a 2004 Homewood-Flossmoor graduate, will be making his major league debut as the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday against the New York Mets at Citi Field in New York.

Ely, 23, got word of the promotion on Monday after going 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts for Albuquerque, the Dodgers' Triple A affiliate. He'll replace Vincente Padilla, who went on the disabled list Sunday with right forearm soreness.

"I can't believe it," Ely said via phone from Omaha. "I'm going to try and zone in and not look up (when he first toes the rubber). I'm sure I'm going to be nervous. If you're not nervous, you better find a new profession. But I'll be able to handle it."

Ely always dreamed of pitching for the White Sox growing up in Homewood.

That dream nearly became a reality when the White Sox selected Ely in the third round of the 2007 Amateur Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-hander made a rapid rise up the organizational ladder, going 14-2 at Double A Birmingham last season.

But when the White Sox acquired Juan Pierre in December, Ely was included in the package sent to the Dodgers.

At the time, he would have preferred to remain in the White Sox organization, but vowed to make the most of the change of scenery.

Five months later, he's making his big league debut.

"The trade has worked out real well," Ely said. "I had a solid spring. I've thrown the ball well at Albuquerque. I know some of the guys in the Mets lineup. I'll figure out a way to attack them."
아직 공식적인 발표는 하지 않았지만, 일라이의 고향소식지에 따르면 일라이가 내일 메츠전 선발등판이 확정되었다고 합니다. 이미 오마하원정에 참여하고 있는 일라이와 전화인터뷰를 통해서 일라이의 심정도 적혀있는 걸로 봐서는 선수에게는 통보를 미리 한 상황에서 발표만 남은 상황인거 같습니다.

일단은 일라이는 밑에서도 언급했지만, 40인 로스터에 포함된 선수가 아니기때문에 누군가를 빼야하고 아마도 2명의 선수(어스무스 or 웨이드)중에 한명을 60일자 DL로 옮기는 것으로 예상되네요.

아랫팔뚝이 아픈 관계로 15일자 DL에 올라있는 파디야의 경우는 토레가 적어도 열흘정도는 피칭을 하지 않을 것이라고 합니다.

MRI촬영결과 Radial nerve쪽에 좋질 않다고 하는군요. 본인의 말로는 과거에도 아팠지만, 참고 던졌고, 이번 스캠에서도 아팠지만, 참고 던졌는데, 이번에는 못참겠다고 하더군요. 좀 많이 아픈모양입니다.

역시 15일자 DL에 올라서 LA로 가서 진찰을 받고 있는 매니의 경우 딴짓을 하고 있네요.

1차전에서 홈런을 기록했던 베이가 2차전 첫 타석에서도 3루타를 기록하면서 최근 상승세를 이어가고 있습니다. 왜 하필 다저스전 직전에 살아나서...-0-
