Former Menchville High pitcher Jharel Cotton may bypass college baseball to sign a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cotton and his family are scheduled to meet with Los Angeles officials Friday to continue talks that have been ongoing for more than a week. said Ducky Davis, a Dodgers scout based in Norfolk. The team has offered Cotton a six-figure signing bonus, money usually reserved for prospects chosen in the first five rounds of June’s draft.

Davis’ supervisor, Clair Rierson, traveled to Hampton this summer to observe Cotton, and a third scout viewed him Monday. Aware of the Dodgers’ presence, Cotton responded with one of his most dominant performances.

Cotton helped Menchville to the 2009 state championship and USA Today national title and was 5-2 this spring with a 2.77 ERA for Miami Dade College. Since Miami Dade is a two-year school, Cotton was draft-eligible in June, but he was not among the 1,525 players selected.

A right-handed starter, Cotton continued to flourish with the Pilots, striking out 57 in 46 innings during the regular season. He was 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA and committed to play at East Carolina after another year at Miami Dade.

Cotton's older brother, Jamaine, who played his high school ball in the family's native Virgin Islands, was a 15th-round draft choice of the Houston Astros in June, signed for a $75,000 bonus and is pitching for Greeneville, Tenn., in the Appalachian League.

이런것처럼 타격에도 재능이 있나 봅니다. 뭐 학원야구가 대부분 그렇지만...일단 위에 베이스러닝도 그렇지만, 기본적으로 운동신경은 있는가 봅니다.
